Bochum is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located in the Ruhr area and surrounded by the cities of Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Herne, Recklinghausen and Dortmund. Formerly a center of coal mining and steel industry, Bochum is now a metropolis of the tertiary sector.
Sightseeing
The town of Bochum, which is some 680 years old, was previously famous throughout the world as a centre of cast iron steel production and has since developed into a very diverse town. In addition to its theatre, which is renowned throughout Germany, its football club and one of the largest universities in Germany, Bochum offers numerous buildings and monuments from centuries past - not least from the period of industrialization, which has left a lasting mark on Bochum.

The Bochum cultural scene offers you many different, interesting events: concerts, theatrical performances, markets, exhibitions, guided city tours, lectures, sports or the cinema - the choice is yours! The most well-known Bochum event is the open air music festival "Bochum Total”, which attracts up to one million visitors every year.
